Frequently Asked Questions
Where to start when it comes to energy efficiency can be overwhelming. Below are some common questions we get asked regularly.
By installing a POWERees there will be a small impact on waterflow, but not one that will adversely affect the pool turnover rate. In fact, by installing a POWERees your pump will work the way it was designed to. A slower flow rate reduces water flow resistance and adds to improving filtration efficiency, resulting in crisper water. The EES team work with our clients to ensure that the pools operations are not impacted, whilst at the same time saving on power consumption and therefore costs. Pool features such as fountains and waterfalls will continue to work in exactly the same way. 11
For all installations, EES will install a data logger on the pool pump that our POWERees is connected to. This will accurately measures the power consumption in kilowatt hours (kWh) that the pool pump is using. This data is provided at the end of each month but can also be accessed in real time through SMARTees. 2
Prior to installing a POWERees , EES will install a data logger on to your pool pump and measure the power consumption (kWh). This is the base line for that pump. After installation the data logger will remain installed and measure the kWh consumed with the POWERees working. This difference between the two readings is the verified power consumption as a result of installing the POWERees.
Whilst the data loggers are primarily used to measure the power consumption of the pool pumps, they can be installed on any circuit. Clients have used this tool to confirm the accuracy of their power bills, or to even assist in allocating power costs between share offices or where separate businesses may use a single power meter.
Businesses are charged electricity based upon the KwH consumed from their electricity supplier. By installing a POWERees , this power consumption is reduced by ensuring that your pool pump only uses the power it needs to operate at its optimum level. This reduction in power consumption translates directly into lower power bills. 2
Yes it will – in a positive way. By installing a POWERees your pool pump will work the way it was intended, meaning improved filtration efficiency and cleaner, crisper water.
No. In fact the POWERees is built with features that help protect your pumps from faults and potential brown outs. In addition, by having your pump work more effectively, repair and maintenance costs will be reduced and the life of your pump extended.
It can, however it must be remembered that every pump is different, even if they are the same size and manufacturer. Before installing a POWERees on multiple pumps, the EES team will work with your operations team to understand how best to install the POWERees so as to gain the greatest power savings without comprising on the clients operations.
The POWERees are IP66 rated, meaning total protection against dust and strong jets of water. Built with tough polycarbonate, they are specifically designed to withstand degradation by ultra-violet (UV) light, greases, oils and acids. Able to operate in environments of up to 95% humidity, space is generally the only potential limitation on where a POWERees can be installed.
A pool system is made up of 3 separate elements – pump (circulation); filtration (purification) and chemical balance. The POWERees only focuses on the pump element, and helps the pump work more effectively. This means that in most cases if the pool water has turned green, it’s one of the other 2 elements that have an issue. EES has seen where by installing a POWERees it has highlighted issues such as poor chemical balance or improperly maintained sand filtration systems. In 99% of the cases, any deterioration in water quality is a result of 1, or sometimes both, elements.
The POWERees comes with pump protection features. If the POWERees detects a fault within the power supply – such as a dropped phase – then the POWERees will stop the supply of power to the pump in order to protect the pump from damage. Where this happens, clients should request assistance from EES to investigate the reason for the shutdown and address the potential harmful cause rather than requesting to bypass the POWERees, as ultimately without the protection of the POWERees you are risking more damage to your pump, which will potentially lead to higher costs.
According to the 2020 Climate Transparency Report for Indonesia, for every 1KwH of electricity supplied, 804g of carbon dioxide (CO2) is released into the atmosphere. By reducing the power consumption of your pumps this CO2 emission is reduced. As an example, for an average 8Kw pump operating 12 hours a day, CO2 emissions of approximately 16.9t can be saved every year by installing a POWERees.
No, in fact by installing a POWERees it will help reduce maintenance costs. By placing less stress on the motor there is less vibration, less cavitation and less back pressure on the motor resulting in the motor running cooler.
In all honesty not a lot. However, unlike an inverter the POWERees range covers single and 3 Phase motors from x W in size all the way up to xkW. Added to that, the EES team have been working with pool pumps for over 12 years, so know how best to install and program the POWERees in order for you to maximise your savings whilst not compromising on performance.
Every pump is different, so it is impossible to give an accurate prediction on exact savings until the POWERees is installed. In general EES won’t recommend the installation of a POWERees unless it can demonstrate greater than 40% power savings for a single phase motor and 50% power savings for a 3 phase motor.
